Reading University Design does Good for Nothing

Good for Nothing is Good for Students. 27 final year typography & graphic communication students from Reading University did Good for Nothing for their final year project. We connected this talented, enthusiastic bunch with some innovative social and environmental causes that needed some design help: The Good Gym, Hackney Yoga Project, Homeless SMS (rebranded Word on the Street) and a sub-brand of Pedal Power Transport called Ecoway. Not only did their work count towards their degree marks, it also gave them an opportunity to work on 'real life' briefs and the chance to potentially have some of their work implemented.

I really enjoyed my visits to the campus, seeing how their work progressed week by week. I must say I was pretty blown away by the quality of the work presented in the final week. So much thought and research had gone into their proposals and a lot was made for each organisation: brand values, logos, websites, flyers, leaflets, badges, stickers and animations (have a look at the slideshow or film below to see the work). What struck me when speaking to the students and lecturers was how much more engaged & enthusiastic they were because their work mattered and could have a significant impact on the cause they were designing for.
