Sydney Sequel |
Following on from the monumental success of our first GFN weekend in March, we're keen to keep things moving with gig number 2 on 27th September. We're expecting twice the number of people, and we're halving the amount of time - giving the 24 hour gig format a go this time.
If you're new to GFN, have a look around the site and check out the 'How it Works' section. Get yourself set up with a profile and we'll send you updates in the run up to the event.
If that's not enough to get you excited, try this on for size. We can now give you a sneak peak at the first two projects you'll be getting stuck into.
So rather than us ramble on, hear from the brains behind them
Claire Wearne of The Angel Place Project:
The Angel Place Project is about aligning the supply of unsold hotel beds with the demand for beds by those who are at risk of homelessness, one hotel at a time. The not-for-profit social enterprise aims to demonstrate the viability of commercial hotels making available a percentage of unsold beds, by offering them to individuals and families who are on the precipice of a housing crisis. _

Felicity, Jillian and Claire of Machinam:
There is work being done to attract high school students to maths and engage them in existing resources. However what makes us unique is connecting what students are learning to real life. We want to create the context for maths, have students investigate and use inquiry based learning rather than giving them a bunch of irrelevant formulas.
To really engage students we need to get into the classroom. The most effective way to do this is through the resources*. *We are out to revolutionise what textbooks are and create them as easy to understand and apply to life.
Think Grand Theft Auto meeting real world maths high school students where they get to create the world around them.
Awesome. Or. What!
Sign up to the event to get further updates on project three.
P.S we have a technical glitch due to our time zone being upside down. It is 27th September. Please ignore the calendar and rest assured the mother bird has been notified.
